Preparatory Course for Associate Chartered Accountant(ACA)

About Programme

The Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA), regarded worldwide as a leading financial business qualification, provides relevant and non-accounting graduates a pathway to the accounting profession. It also allows mid-year career switch for those considering accountancy as a career.

The ACA qualification is unique in bringing together technical knowledge, practical application, work experience and best practice. The programme incorporates ICPAS Singapore tax and law papers at the Professional Stage, ensuring it has global recognition as well as local relevance.

SAA-GE [formerly known as the Singapore Accountancy Academy (SAA), the Training Arm of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore (ICPAS)] is the approved preparatory course provider for the ICAEW ACA programme in Singapore.

Entry Requirements for ACA qualification

The majority of ACA students are graduates, who come from a range of disciplines. Students do not need to have studied accountancy or finance at degree level to become an ACA.

  • Professional Stage
To sit the Professional Stage assessments, an applicant must be registered as a student with the ICAEW.

    Students may register with ICAEW:
    1. As a student in a training contract1
    2. As an independent student2

    Credit for Prior Learning

Credit for prior learning or CPL is the term for exemptions. If students have accounting or business related degree or a professional accountancy qualification, they may apply for credit/exemption against an ICAEW exam module.

Please refer to www.icaew.com for more details on the training contract and definition of an independent student.
  • Advanced Stage

Students may attempt the Technical Integration assessments at any point.
The Case Study cannot be attempted unless the student has completed all but their last year of approved training by the end of the month in which the assessment is held. Please log on to www.icaew.com for more details.

To register as a student, a registration fee of £165 is payable to ICAEW. Students may click on www.icaew.com/students for details on exam dates, deadlines and timetable information.

Students enrolling for examinations / preparatory course with ICPAS / SAA-GE respectively are required to pay candidate fee (include GST) to ICPAS:

1 The training contract is a written agreement between student and his/her employer acknowledging the student’s commitment to the ACA training process. The training contract is entirely separate to student’s employment contract. If you are in an ACA training contract, your employer will pay you a salary and normally pay your preparatory course and exam fees. However, not all employers cover the same costs and preparatory course fees vary depending on the course provider.

2 Independent students will be responsible for paying their registration, preparatory course and exam fees. As an independent student training for the ACA qualification, ICAEW ACA programme’s regulations allow ‘independent’ students to study for and sit all of the exams except for the Case Study. To be eligible to sit the Case Study (the final exam), student is required to be in an ACA training agreement. In addition, no ACA student is allowed to sit the Case Study until the final year of their ACA training agreement.
