Chan Chee Kin B. Sc. (Hons) Economics & M.S. in Finance

Education Qualifications

Mr. Alex Chan graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Economics from the University of London. He obtained his Master of Science in Finance from the EDHEC Business School in Nice, France. His research interest lies in the field of time series analysis, volatility modeling and asset allocation.

Professional Experience

Prior to lecturing, Mr. Alex Chan worked for a brief period under the Futures and Options Brokerage team of a foreign investment bank and has valuable operations experience within the back-end office.

Lecturing Experience

As an active and enthusiastic learner, Mr Alex Chan conducted frequent informal class gathering to tutor his peers and prepare for examinations throughout his undergraduate and postgraduate days.  Many of his peers developed strong understanding of the curriculum and benefited vastly from revising for examinations using his self compiled notes.

Chung Kiah Sing   BSc(Hons),  MAcc,  MIT.

Educational Qualification

Mr. Chung has a Bachelor degree in Science from University of Singapore, CDipAF from ACCA, DipCompTech from NUS, Master degree in Accountancy and Master degree in Information Technology from Charles Sturt University, Australia.

Professional Experience

Mr. Chung brings with him more than 20 years of working experience in a statutory board and sizable private and public listed companies. He worked as a practitioner looking after financial and cost accounting system and integration with other key operational systems over 15 years. He was the Assistant Vice President of a department before he worked as a full-time lecturer.

Lecturing Experience

Mr. Chung has many years of lecturing experience with local institutes. He has over 5 years of full-time teaching in University of London degree programme.

He has taught financial and managerial accounting and information technology subjects in the diploma, bachelor and master degree level. Programmes taught include SIM University, Murdoch University and University of London. 

Being committed and patient, he is keen to help many students improve on their academic performance. While teaching full-time in UOL programme, Mr. Chung as a member of the dedicated team, helped produce first-class honours graduates over the years.

Educational Qualification

Mr Goh is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants UK and is in public practice. He is also a Fellow Certified Public Accountant of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore. Mr Goh graduated from the ACCA examinations achieving top place for the "Advanced Accounting Practice" (a double paper) and “Tax and Tax Management. He was the Chairman of the Student's Section Committee during his studentship and served as a committee member of the ACCA (Singapore Branch) after graduation.

Professional Experience

Mr Goh is a sole practitioner in his own accounting firm for the past 20 years. He has more than 28 years of experience in auditing, fraud investigation, taxation, liquidation, corporate secretarial services and financial planning.

Lecturing Experience

Mr Goh is widely regarded as a pioneer lecturer of SAA, the training division of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore (ICPAS). It is heartwarming to take note that many of his students are now lecturers in the ACCA, degree and professional programmes as well as public accountants.

He was an adjunct senior fellow with the National University of Singapore for more than 10 years. He has also been the examiner and moderator for various degree programmes. He has been an invited lecturer to the ACCA (Malaysia Division) for ACCA revision courses and has been lecturing on the ACCA programme since 1985.

He has taught numerous subjects for institutions such as the National University of Singapore, Singapore Institute of Management, Singapore Association of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators; and the ICPAS. He has also been a trainer for ICPAS on all three levels of the Structured Practical Audit Training Programmes which provides training for personnel of audit firms and other government and regulatory authorities.

Programmes taught include ACCA, Certified Accounting Technicians, Association of Accounting Technicians, Certified Diploma in Accounting and Finance, Diploma in Management Studies (SIM University), Graduate Diploma in Financial Management (SIM University), Certificate and Diploma in Banking (Institute of Banking and Finance), Criminal Law (Singapore Police Force), various Australian degree units and the University of London degree units.

Irene Tay    BA & Soc Sc, MBA, MSHRI, MMIS 

Educational Qualification

Mrs Irene Tay graduated with a Master degree of Business Administration from Victoria University of Technology, Australia and a Bachelor of Arts & Social Science degree from the University of Singapore. She is a member of Singapore Human Resource Institute, Singapore Training & Development Association and Chartered Institute of Personnel Management & Development, UK.

Professional Experience

As an Associate Consultant, Irene brings along her 20 years of experience with versatility and tenure in people management. She has facilitated human resources to meet organisations’ vision and mission.

She has contributed to the organizations that she worked with to win the Asian Institute of Management Award for People and Development, Outstanding Newcomer Quality Organisation Award as well as the Singapore Quality Class status.

Lecturing Experience

Irene specializes in teaching the subject of human resource management, as well as organizational theory and business management from the diploma to master level at various institutions, polytechnics and universities.

She has been involved in lectures with local students and foreign students as well as matured adult learners.

The key educational institutions which Irene has been participating are: Singapore Management University, Singapore Human Resource Institute, SIM University, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Nanyang Polytechnic.

Other institutions like University of Leicester, University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, Northumbria University, Curtin University of Technology. Irene's training and lectures have been conducted in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, Hong Kong and China. She has been invited Guest Speaker in various seminars as well as on radio and television from topics relating to training methodologies to customer service management.

 

Michael Goh   B.Acc, MSc (Finance), CPA Singapore. 

 Education Qualification

Mr. Goh graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Accountancy from Singapore and a Masters of Finance from New York. He is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore. He has done modular legal studies in banking & civil law matters relating to his expertise and spent some time in legal training in criminal law.

 Professional Experience

Mr. Goh is currently the Corporate Development Director of a private investment holding group based in Singapore with operations in trading, manufacturing, real estate developments and investments in Asia. He was the Executive Director of a manufacturing company in Singapore for which he was also the shareholder.  He is presently also a business associate of a corporate training and consultancy firm with business activities in South East Asia.

Prior to his current portfolio of business interests and ventures, Mr. Goh was a senior banker for 18 years specializing in Credit and Risk Management. His banking career started in corporate credit & marketing functions before moving to specialize in Credit and Risk Management. He was the Head of Credit Department in world top international banks in charge of all aspects of Credit Risk functions.

Mr. Goh was a member of the management team in both the local Credit Committee and the Regional Management Risk Committee for approving all credit and risk exposures in the Asia Pacific Region. As a senior banker, he was in charge of several countries in South East Asia and Greater China region (China, Hong Kong and Taiwan). He was vested with substantial personal approving authority for all counter-parties’ risks and products in countries under his charge covering a wide spectrum of banking activities such as wholesale & commercial lending, private banking, trade finance, project and structured finance, treasury and derivative products, investment banking and venture equity investments.

Lecturing Experience 

Mr. Goh has been teaching and conducting banking & finance training since early 1990s, both for his banks during his employment as well as for many other financial institutions in Asia. Not only does Mr. Goh train financial institutions, he also trains the central bankers that regulate financial institutions. A highly rated trainer, Mr. Goh uses many practical examples from the Asia banking environment in his classes. He teaches Banking & Finance courses for the UOL programme.

 

Mohamed Malik    LLM (London), LLB (London) (Hons), MCIArb (UK), PG Cert & PG Dip in Commercial & Corporate Law (London)

Educational Qualification

Mr. Malik graduated with Honours in the Bachelor of laws, from the University of London (external system) in the year 1990. He has also completed his Master of Laws, specializing in corporate and commercial law. He is a student member of the Middle Temple, Inns of Court, where he attended dinners as part of his course for the Bar. He completed the post graduate certificate and Diploma exams with the University of London attaining a merit in both the exams. He completed the exams for the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) and is a member of the Institute.

Professional Experience

Mr. Malik brings with him 23 years of corporate and commercial experience, in the Airline logistics and customer servicing industry. He has performed customer servicing, logistics and management functions in the Airport Ground Handling and Airline Industry from 1978 – 2003, contributing to the early years of the growth of the airline and airport handling industry in Singapore.

Lecturing Experience

Mr. Malik is currently the Head of the UOL Law programmes and is an Academic Board member at SAA Global Education. He has over 10 years of experience leading the law departments and teaching law subjects in various Singapore PEIs (Private Education Institutions) for programmes offered by both UK and Australian Universities. In particular, he has taught for the University of London law degree, and has specialised in the corporate and commercial law subjects, such as contract law, Common law reasoning, Company law, commercial law and European Union Law. He also has expert experience in the teaching of the Business law subjects in the Monash College and Deakin University programmes. He was also the examiner/marker for the Business law papers for the Monash College programmes in Singapore. He is currently an Academic Board member at SAA Global Education.

Ng Kam Cheong, Alan   FCCA, CPA Singapore. 

Educational Qualification

Mr. Alan Ng has a Master degree in Finance from the National University of Ireland.  He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants UK and a Certified Public Accountant of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore (ICPAS).

Professional Experience

Mr. Alan Ng brings with him more than ten years of experience in the accounting industry. His passion for teaching has turned him into a very dedicated full time accounting lecturer because his motor is: “Learning is opportunities and Teaching is rewarding career.” 

Lecturing Experience

M. Alan Ng has more than ten years of lecturing experience.

He has taught various accounting and finance subjects in the diploma and degree level. Programmes taught include the ICPAS Diploma in Professional Accounting, LCCI Diploma in Accounting, SIM University Degree and the University of London Degree.  

Being committed and patient, it is not surprising that he has helped many weak students improve on their grades. It should be highlighted that Mr Alan Ng has been teaching the UOL programme since 1999 and that he has produced many first class honours students over the years.

Ong Kang Lin   BBA (Hons), MBA (Hons)                                      

Educational Qualification

Mr Ong graduated with a BBA (Hons) from NUS in 2003 and also completed the CFA programme in 2005. In 2006, Mr Ong went to The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, graduating with an MBA with Highest Distinction (Palmer Scholar). 

Professional Experience 

Mr Ong’s professional experience is in banking and finance, particularly in the area of real estate financing and acquisitions. He previously worked for the Singapore government as well as in the banking industry with a leading commercial bank and a global US investment bank. Besides banking and finance, Mr Ong’s professional interests also include business strategy for SMEs and family businesses. He is the award winner of the US-based Family Business Magazine with his article on the role of non-family executives in family businesses.

Lecturing Experience

Mr Ong previously taught financial accounting as a teaching associate at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Currently, he teaches Principles of Banking and Finance at Singapore Accountancy Academy to undergraduates reading bachelor degrees from University of London. He is also engaged by SIM University and Amity Business School to lecture corporate finance and managerial finance.

Peter Wong Tuck Wah   BSc (Hons),MBA

Educational Qualification 

Mr Wong graduated in 1980 from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland with First Class Honours in Production Management and Manufacturing Technology. In 1983, he earned a MBA from the University of Strathclyde Business School, made possible with a scholarship awarded by the Public Service Commission under the UNDP-ILO sponsorship programme. He is also a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer. In June 2003, he attended the Stanford Executive Program.

In Year 2003, was presented with the “Strathclyder of the Year” Award. This award is given out annually to a member of the Strathclyde community who has made an outstanding contribution to the University or society and consequently has enhanced the University’s reputation.

Professional Experience

Mr Wong was the Chief Operating Officer of the NTUC Healthcare Cooperative Ltd from 2004 to 2008. Up till the end of 2003, he held the appointment of Director, NTUC-Administration and Research Unit and was on secondment to the NTUC Dental Care Cooperative Society, Limited as its General Manager and concurrently the Executive Secretary to the INCOME Development Organization. Prior to this appointment, he was the Director of Skills Development in National Trades Union Congress. He began his career in the NTUC in 1990 when he was deputed to the NTUC to start up the Singapore Institute of Labour Studies, now known as the Ong Teng Cheong Leadership Development Institute.

Mr Wong has been deputed on numerous occasions by the Singapore Government, Asian Productivity Organization and the International Labour Office to provide technical expert services to countries in the Republic of Ghana, Republic of China, India, Thailand, Philippines, Pakistan and Western Australia. Most of these pertained to matters related to labour management relations, trade unionism, organizational change and productivity improvements.

Mr Wong served as a member on the Sub-committee on Manpower in the Committee for Singapore’s Competitiveness as well as the Manpower 21 committee. He has also served as Director in the Productivity and Standards Board, Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore Quality Institute and as an Alternate Director to the National Productivity Council. He also represented the labour movement in numerous committees pertaining to workers’ education and training such as the Chinese Development Assistance Council, Yayasan Mendaki, Singapore Indians Development Agency, Singapore Confederation of Industries and the Institute for Technical Education

Lecturing Experience

He is currently a Visiting Lecturer to the Strathclyde University Graduate School of Business, an Associate Faculty of UniSIM and Curtin University of Technology. His academic interests are in the area of strategic management and employment relations.

Pooveneswary N.Poovanesparan    BSc, MBA

Educational Qualification

Pooveneswary NP graduated with a BSc (Maths and Computer Science) and a MBA, from NUS.

Lecturing Experience

Pooveneswary NP has had extensive experience teaching Mathematics and Statistics at the diploma and degree level.  She teaches Engineering Mathematics at Singapore Polytechnic.

Her experience includes teaching Mathematics, Computing Mathematics, Operational Research and Statistics to undergraduates reading for degrees from University of Bradford, University of Wales and University of London. Her experience also involves teaching PhD students (doing their thesis in social science) how to analyse data using software packages like SPSS.

Quek Yeow Lin, Ryan    BBUS(Hons), MSc(RE)

Educational Qualification

Mr Quek graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Studies (Marketing) from Nanyang Technological University. He also holds a Master of Science (Real Estate) from the National University of Singapore

Professional Experience

Mr Quek brings with him over 13 years of industry experience and partakes in the rollout and marketing of various programmes and initiatives for his company.

Lecturing Experience

As an in-house trainer, Mr Quek has conducted many sessions of trainings to his peers. He specializes in teaching principles of marketing for the UOL programme.

Tan Leong Chin   

MBA (Hull), MIIA, CPA Singapore

Educational Qualification

Mr Tan is a non-practising member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore (ICPAS) and an ordinary member of the Institute of Internal Auditors, Singapore. He also holds an MBA from the University of Hull.

Professional Experience

Mr Tan brings with him more than twenty years of working experience from different industries. He has worked as an auditor with an international accounting firm, as a trainer cum lecturer with various institutions, as a finance manager with a manufacturing company and as a free lance project consultant with various companies with subsidiaries based in China, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Lecturing Experience

Mr Tan is an experienced lecturer teaching accountancy related subjects like financial accounting, management accounting, financial management and quantitative methods. His lecturing ability has even taken him overseas to places like China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. Over the last twenty years, he has trained students preparing for the ACCA, CAT, UOL & other undergraduate and MBA programmes.

 Tan Peng Kwee,  Solicitor, Advocate    LLB (HONS) 

Educational Qualification

Peng Kwee graduated from the National University of Singapore.

Professional Experience 

Peng Kwee has practised as a lawyer in Singapore for more than 15 years (in civil and criminal law). He is presently also a Notary Public and a Commissioner for Oaths. He is a consultant with the law firm of Aptus Law Corporation, the managing consultant of Bird's Consultancy, and a director of EdNoTe Consultancy Pte Ltd. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Peng Kwee was a regular police officer with the Singapore Police Force.

Lecturing Experience

Peng Kwee is presently lecturing at the SAA Global Education and is involved in the training of investigation officers with the Commercial Affairs Department, Singapore Police Force (“CAD”). He conducts continuing professional education seminars with ICPAS, CAD and other commercial institutions and multi-national corporations (for professionals in the corporate, human resource, engineering and construction fields).

He was recently a speaker (Corporate Governance for Law Enforcers (Asian Context)) at the CAD International Economic Crime Conference 2010 with law enforcement officers from Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore (Singapore Exchange, Monetary Authority of Singapore, Singapore Customs, Corrupt Practice Investigation Bureau and Singapore Police Force) and Thailand.

In the past, he was an adjunct lecturer at the Nanyang Business School (Nanyang Technological University) and is presently an adjunct tutor there. He has also lectured at Temasek Polytechnic and the Singapore Police Force. He was also a facilitator at Republic Polytechnic.

His wide experience in conducting training programmes to a wide range of audiences allows him to adopt a refreshing and enlightening, sometimes even entertaining approach to his lectures and seminars.

He is the author of the Corporate and Business Law Study Manual and Revision Kit, published by SAA Global Education.

Tay Eng Huat     BAcc, MScFM, CPA Singapore.

Educational Qualification

Mr Tay graduated from the Faculty of Accountancy & Business of the Nanyang Technological University of Singapore in 1993. He is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore since 1997. He is also a member of the Singapore Association of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (SAICSA). Mr Tay obtained his Master of Science in Financial Management from University of London.

Professional Experience

Mr Tay is currently the managing director of corporate advisory firm, NFG Capital Partners. He is a financier to many local and overseas companies in fundraising and advice them corporate financial engineering. He has been a banker in the financial industry for more than 16 years and has diverse exposure in various aspects of banking and corporate finance works.

Lecturing Experience

Mr Tay is a lecturer with the Singapore Association of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators (SAICSA) in their degree certification professional programme, lecturing on the subject of Corporate Financial Management and Business Accounting.  He also teaches the subject of Capital Market at a local University.

Teo Chua Chin   B. Sc. (Hons) Economics & M.S.Sc. in Economics

Educational Qualification

Mr Teo graduated with a Masters degree in Economics from the National University of Singapore. He is also a member of the Economics Society of Singapore and his research interests lies in the area exploring the feasibility of monetary integration for the countries in East Asia.                      

Professional Experience

Mr Teo's professional experience is in post banking mergers and consolidation. Interestingly, he has also taken part in the research of our country’s Gifted Education Programme (GEP) at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University and is now deeply entrenched in the education industry.

Lecturing Experience

Mr Teo is the examiner for local and overseas universities’ papers. He has also conducted Economics seminars for professionals outside the financial industry.

He has taught Economics at the diploma and degree levels. Programmes taught include the SIM University Diploma in Management Studies, Curtin University of Technology, Queensland University, National University of Singapore and the University of London Degrees.

Mr Teo has been teaching the UOL programme since 2002. Many of his UOL students have since graduated with a first class honours degree.

Terence Liew     
Bsc (Hons), MA (Finance & Investment, Distinction)

Educational Qualification

Terence graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Accounting & Finance (Honours) from the University of London and later pursue his Postgraduate degree in Finance and Investment (Distinction) with the University of Exeter, England. He was subsequently offered a PhD Scholarship in Finance with the University which he declined to return back to Singapore. His research interest lies in behavioural finance and behavioural  economics.

Profession Qualification

After his postgraduate studies. Terence worked in both the hedge fund industry and the banking industry in the area of trading risk management, portfolio management and investment analysis for HNI and companies for 6 years and has also manage a team of 30 under his leadership during his banking days with global MNC.

Lecturing Experience

Terence has taught in both the diploma and degree level to students under UOL programme.

Wu Yan Bin          B.A.(Economics with Distinction), MSc.(Management Science & Engineering)

Educational Qualifications

Mr Wu graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics (with distinction) and a Masters degree in Management Science & Engineering from Stanford University. In addition, he completed the ACCA Professional Exams in December 2005 and obtained the following awards

  • June 05- Paper 3.3- Performance Management (2nd placing in S'pore; 5th placing worldwide)
  • Dec 05- Paper 3.5- Strategic Biz Planning & Devt (3rd placing in S'pore; 11th placing worldwide)
  • Dec 05- Paper 3.7- Strategic Financial Management (1st place worldwide)
  • Dec 05- Paper 3.5, 3.6 & 3.7 - 1st Placing in Singapore; 4th placing worldwide.

Professional Experience

Mr Wu is currently doing project financing for Mizuho Corporate Bank. Previously, he has worked in the mergers & acquisitions/business development departments of PSA International, Total Oil Asia Pacific and SN Power, evaluating the economic feasibility of acquisitions and greenfield projects.

Lecturing Experience 

Mr Wu has conducted corporate finance courses for PSA Singapore. During his final year in Stanford University, he was a teaching assistant, conducting tutorials on mathematics for prospective Economics majors.
